Ingredients
  

Dry Ingredients

  • 2 ½ cups all-purpose flour sifted (315g)
  • ¾ teaspoon baking powder
  • ¼ teaspoon fine salt

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup unsalted butter softened (226g)
  • 1 cup granulated sugar (200g)
  • 1 large egg room temperature
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract or almond extract for a twist

Decorations

  • Gel food coloring orange, purple, and black
  • Colored sanding sugar or Halloween sprinkles optional

Instructions
 

  • Whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt in a bowl.
  • Cream butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in egg and vanilla extract.
  • Gradually mix in dry ingredients until combined.
  • Divide dough into portions and color each with different food coloring.
  • Roll out colored doughs and layer them together.
  • Roll into a log and chill before slicing.
  • Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 8-10 minutes.
  • Decorate with sprinkles if desired.

Notes

Chill dough before slicing for cleaner cuts.
