Ingredients
  

For the Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 ½ teaspoons baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

For the Cinnamon Cream Cheese Frosting

  • 8 oz cream cheese, softened
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a baking pan.
  • In a mixing bowl, combine flour, baking soda, cinnamon, nutmeg, and salt.
  • In another bowl, cream together the butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Add eggs, applesauce, and vanilla extract to the butter mixture. Mix until well combined.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients. Mix until just combined.
  • Pour the batter into the prepared baking pan and bake for 30 minutes or until a toothpick comes out clean.
  • For the frosting, beat together cream cheese, butter, powdered sugar, cinnamon, and vanilla extract until smooth.
  • Allow the cake to cool completely before frosting it with the cinnamon cream cheese frosting.

Notes

You can add nuts or raisins to the batter for extra flavor.
