Description
Crispy fried mushrooms with a golden crust and tender inside.
Ingredients

- 16 oz mushrooms (white button mushrooms, cremini, etc.)
- 1.5 cup all-purpose flour
- 1 cup panko breadcrumbs
- 1 cup soda water or beer
- 1/2 cup buttermilk or 1/2 cup milk + 1/2 lemon (juiced) OR 1 TBSP vinegar
- 1 egg
- 1/2 Tbsp salt
- 1/2 tsp garlic powder
- 1/2 tsp onion powder
- 1/2 tsp sweet paprika
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 4-6 cups vegetable oil or canola oil, for frying
- Handful of parsley (to garnish)
Instructions
- Clean mushrooms and pat dry.
- Mix flour, panko, salt, garlic powder, onion powder, paprika, and black pepper in a bowl.
- In another bowl, whisk egg, buttermilk (or substitute), and soda water (or beer).
- Dip mushrooms in the wet mixture, then coat with the dry mixture.
- Heat oil in a deep pan to 350°F (175°C).
- Fry mushrooms in batches until golden brown (3-4 minutes).
- Drain on paper towels.
- Garnish with parsley and serve hot.
Notes
- Use fresh mushrooms for best texture.
- Do not overcrowd the pan while frying.
- Serve immediately for maximum crispiness.
